Permanent position doing new development/maintenance coding in a mixed technical environment (ASP 3.0 front end, C# and Delphi COM+ middle-tier components, and Oracle 9i databases). The web system is used for management and delivery of real estate tax data to the mortgage servicing industry, in conjunction with a large batch system that collects tax data from approx. 25,000 tax jurisdictions across the United States.

A contract position on a rapid development project which extended the functionality of an existing intranet-based Project Tracking system. Two subsystems were built to provide annual project planning capability and tracking of actual hours and resources matched to those plans.
  • Beat all projected timelines for IPT project completion by 7 weeks, moving from design to production (with 0 reported defects) in just under 3 weeks.
  • Constructed and deployed ASP pages according to existing stylistic and functional guidelines.
  • Wrote, edited, and extended inline SQL commands, introduced the use of stored procedures for optimized data access.
  • Optimized reporting performance by building SQL Server Views for simplified data access.
  • Resloved difficulties with and optimized use of XML data and XSL stylesheets used in XMLHTTP save functionality.

Pallas Technology, Inc. is a full-service consulting company with a principal focus on custom software development with Java and Visual Basic/ASP. Key clients to whose projects I contributed included American Express and Cendant.
  • Designed and built a flexible data management web application framework and underlying SQL Server 2000 data structure, subsequently used as the basis for multiple web applications used by Cendant Corp.
  • Designed and implemented numerous SQL Server databases (3 staged instances: development, testing, production) via ER-Win. Programmed stored procedures, user-defined functions, and triggers. Handled DBA responsibilities, set up backup operations, performed data migrations via SQL Server DTS packages, tuned indexes and maintained table structures.
  • Developed Java Servlets and JSP pages and deployed web applications to multiple supported platforms (Linux and Windows 2000 servers, BEA WebLogic 7.0, Apache Tomcat, Apache and IIS) across a heterogeneous network.
  • Created custom data layer for a Windows-based Java client/server application, used by American Express for internal HR accounting and data entry. Responsible for Java design and development, testing, and debugging. Integrated data-layer into existing middle-tier of application. Wrote stored procedures in T-SQL under Sybase 11 to facilitate database querying.
  • Debugged and rebuilt a secure, silent FTP agent, built in Visual Basic 6 as an ActiveX DLL. Application originally had difficulty w/ starting and stopping automatically, would not work on all Windows platforms, needed major overhaul for clean functioning under Windows. End product ran cleanly under Windows9x/NT/2000/XP, was used as a file transfer component in a third-party application.

Senior Developer - COSMOS Project
A client/server application used in modeling long-term service agreements for power generation facilities, constructed with Visual Basic 6/COM+ components and using a Unix-based Oracle 8i database, deployed via Citrix Metaframe 1.8 on the Windows 2000 platform.
  • Researched, planned, and steered deployment of COSMOS on the Citrix platform. This involved the analysis of needs and requirements, requisition of appropriate server hardware, installation and modification of settings for both Windows 2000 Server and Citrix Metaframe software, physical relocation of server hardware to a remote location, troubleshooting of connectivity and user issues, and implementation of the Citrix NFuse web portal to allow user access via the GE intranet.
  • Boosted performance of several key COSMOS functionalities over 5000% by porting VB code into PL/SQL packages. Constructed various other PL/SQL stored procedures, and functions to improve overall functionality and remove costly data access logic from the main body of code.
  • Tuned and optimized SQL statements for the Oracle environment, and assisted in overall tuning of the COSMOS database.
  • Facilitated resolution of a critical memory leak in the application; enlisted assistance from Microsoft, analyzed performance metrics using Perfmon and various other Microsoft debugging tools
Lead Developer - CSA Tool Project
An offline tool being constructed with VB 6.0, MSXML 4.0, using data exported from COSMOS and allowing manipulation of that data from a field sales perspective.
  • Coordinated extensively with business analysts in requirements gathering.
  • Authored the tool's design document, detailing functionality and architecture.
  • Chose existing ActiveX controls to provide reporting and compression capability, thus leveraging reuse of existing code.

Developer - ClearStar and Compass Clarity Projects
ClearStar, an n-tier B2B e-commerce web application built on the Windows 2000 platform, utilizing stateless COM+ components, SQL Server 7.0 stored procedures, MSMQ, and IIS 5, with supporting applications written in VB6:
  • Responsible for design and construction of several sections of the site, including a Reports component using the Crystal Reports SmartViewer ActiveX to display custom Crystal Reports over the web, and a Batch Management object and page used for managing, automatic faxing/emailing of order batches.
  • Built user interface using ASP, JavaScript and HTML in MS Visual InterDev.
  • Programmed COM+ objects for the middle-tier using VB6.
  • Designed and implemented table changes, wrote stored procedures, and scheduled jobs for the app's SQL Server 7 data source.
  • Wrote XML documents and schemas for outside interfaces to ClearStar, and gained exposure to RPC programming techniques through SOAP.
  • Created a marketing website for the product and wrote advertising copy for use in print/web marketing efforts.
  • Worked with the emerging .NET platform in its early stages, experimenting with C# and the preview version of ASP.NET.
Compass Clarity, an industry standard SQL Server 6.5 - based client-server application built uisng Visual Basic:
  • Redesigned and built the Clarity "Invoice Manager" module; used a VB 5 front-end EXE and middle-tier DLL to access SQL Server 6.5 and 7.0 databases. Uses dynamic SQL in stored procedures to allow filtering of invoice data based on user-specified criteria. Allows Clarity users to post, print, export, edit, and view details of customer invoices according to Clarity business rules.
  • Improved and added to the functionality of Compass Clarity; prepared product for version 2.0 release, which entailed conversion to SQL Server 7.0 from version 6.5, the addition of standardized error-handling code, the overhaul of several key components, and general debugging.
  • Fast-paced, small-group development atmosphere encouraged 'rapid development' project life-cycles, plus multi-tasking, flexibility, and accelerated skills growth.

  • Designed, coded and maintained COBOL/CICS/DB2 programs for an IBM mainframe system (composed of 900 separate modules in 100+ components) that handles multiple millions of transactions daily in batch/online modes. Used by the State of Georgia to administer public assistance programs.
  • Performed duties using an OS/2 desktop, JCL to compile and test in the mainframe environment, plus multiple tools and mainframe utilities (i.e. MVS Utilities, TSO/ISPF, File-Aid, MicroFocus COBOL Workbench, SPF/PC) for editing/storage of source code and unit testing.
  • Worked on-site with State employees and assisted in their training/preparation for turning over of system to State maintenance.
